By car – 40 miles from the Erskine Bridge and the M8 at Glasgow
Take the M8 to the Erskine Bridge then follow the A82 to Tarbet. At Tarbet, go straight on to the A83 to Arrochar. Follow the road through Arrochar around the head of Loch Long up the ‘Rest and be Thankful’. When the road reaches the top, take a left turn following the sign for Lochgoilhead. From the top of ‘Rest and be thankful’ it is 6 miles to Lochgoilhead. The road now becomes a single track road and has a lot of sharp bends – make use of the passing places! After about 3.5 miles you approach a ‘T’ junction and you bear left to Lochgoilhead. Follow the road until you see a turn off to the right to Carrick Castle – don’t turn right, head straight on over the bridge and continue through the village till you reach the loch side.
